How the CIPP Process Works

Each pipe lining job follows the same structured sequence. Here’s what to expect from start to finish:

Step 1: Video Camera Inspection
A sewer camera is run through the line to confirm CIPP is appropriate and to map the exact location and nature of the damage. This step rules out collapse or conditions that require a different method.

Step 2: Pipe Cleaning
Before the liner goes in, the pipe is mechanically cleaned to remove roots, debris, and buildup. The liner needs a clean surface to bond properly, so this step isn’t skipped.

Step 3: Liner Insertion & Curing
The resin-saturated felt tube liner is fed through an existing access point such as a cleanout, then inflated so it presses against the walls of the host pipe. Heat, UV light, or steam cures the resin until it hardens into a rigid, jointless new pipe inside the old one.

Step 4: Final Verification
A second video camera inspection confirms the liner cured correctly, the pipe has proper flow, and nothing was missed. You see the result before we close out the job.

CIPP vs. Pipe Bursting: Which Method Fits Your Line

Both CIPP and pipe bursting are trenchless methods, but they solve different problems. CIPP rehabilitates a pipe that is damaged but still structurally capable of supporting a liner. Pipe bursting is used when the pipe has collapsed or deteriorated too severely for lining. In that process, a new HDPE pipe is pulled through the old one while a bursting head fractures and displaces the existing pipe, typically requiring two small access pits.
